• Tallenn.in - a digital notebook/scrapbook
There are a million services for digital notekeeping but nothing beats a homebrew version that doesn't sell your data to advertisers and analysts. I use this to keep track of beers I've tried, to keep track of my weather satellite captures, and in general to have a centralized location for notes.
  • What's spinning
A service for myself to keep track of the records and CDs I've played since 6 February 2016. It is connected to my Discogs account. If only I had the motivation to compile monthly and annual recaps... Previous spin:
  • Resurrecting a 1970s flip clock
I got hold of a 1970s Solari Udine Cifra 5 flip clock. These are "slave" clocks i.e. they need an external clock to keep and advance time. I built one out of an Arduino and some other electronics.
  • Sankey diagrams with plotly
    Sankey diagrams are nice.
  • Weather satellite captures
A few weather satellite captures received using an inexpensive RTL-SDR dongle, a very simple v-dipole antenna (and a not-no-so simple quadrifillar helix antenna) and an ordinary laptop.
  • Postcards from space
There was a time when the Russian side of the International Space Station sent postcards from space to those that happened to have a line of sight to the ISS when it passed.
  • How to process Meteor M2 captures offline
I am sure that everyone that has ever tried to use Meteorgis in offline mode to process their Meteor M2 weather satellite captures have more or less lost their mind. This is page is about how I eventually learnt to use it offline. With that being said, I still hate Meteorgis.
  • Documenting a road trip across the US (and a short stretch of Canada) - twice
Just a quick summary of the equipment I used on the road and steps I took at home to combine pictures taken on the road with location data.
  • Airplane arrival and departure routes out of the Helsinki airport.
Although airport arrival and departure charts are readily available online, I got a feeling that sometimes airplanes use completely different routes. Since we were planning to move, I wanted to map out arrival and departure routes in and out of the Helsinki airport to avoid ending up under a busy route. The page provides a heat map and statistics for any point within approximately 50 km of the airport.
  • Very streamlined public transportation journey planner
The HSL journey planner requires too many clicks and too much typing especially on mobile. I have simplified it - for my use. This is probably not much use unless you're my neighbor.
